How It Works - Custom Orders / Personalized Metal Art

You don't need to be an Artist to share your idea with us. Most times a simple discussion will be enough for us to envision your idea and bring the elements you would like together, creating your custom metal art piece.

•  A smaller sized item doesn't necessarily mean it will cost less, smaller pieces generally take more time to make into a cuttable design.
  
• Do you have a budget for your piece? If you wish to let us know your budget, it can help us determine what we can do for you.
  
• Do you have a deadline? More lead time is always better, We will do our best to accommodate rush orders.

Can you provide us with some artwork?

We can work from a variety of formats to create your custom metal art...

• Your idea/vision (no artwork)
• Photographs/Images
• Simple or detailed sketches
• Silhouettes or Clipart from the internet
• Graphics from your print goods (Business Cards, Stationary, Etc...)

We will work with you to come up with the design plan for your piece including size, finish and how it will be hung or mounted.

Once we have most of the details worked out we will make you a mock up image so you can see what we have designed for you.

We provide one complimentary mock up per design request for individual persons.

*All images and mock up images are the property of Island Metal Arts.

(Commercial, Institutional, Business etc... are subject to design fees for mock ups) 

Once we have reached a mutual agreement with you as to the scope of work to  be completed . We can then provide you with an accurate quote for your custom piece. The quote is based on;

• Design Time
• Material and Size
• Production
• Additional Hardware
• Finish
• Shipping (if applicable)

Upon your approval of the quote and your wish for us to proceed with your custom piece, We will require a 50% non-refundable deposit to get the project underway.

Now that the business side of things are out of the way, we can begin the design of your custom piece.

We will provide you with updates along the way and possibly a few questions to confirm design features.

Once the design is complete and approved by you its on to production.

• We will accommodate a few minor changes to the design such as font style with no extra cost to you.
  
• Unfortunately we must charge for additional design time where  multiple changes or general overall changes are requested.

Time to  breathe the life into your custom piece. 

Your design has now been made into an digital  format which allows us to cut the design on our "state of the art"  CNC Plasma Table.

After cutting,  your custom  piece  will go through a series of metal finishing processes to de-burr, smooth, or ad a grained texture to the surface prepararing the piece for Powder Coating or Painting.

Pieces which are to remain as Bare Metal also go through the exact same process.

• Bare Metal pieces must be treated with oil or receive a finish in order to protect from rusting.

• You can also let your Bare Metal piece rust for the "patina" or "aged" look

And Presto! Your custom piece is done!

We will let you know as soon as your piece is ready to go... 

You can arrange to pick up in person or

arrange with us to have the piece shipped.

For larger pieces being picked up we recommend bringing a clean blanket,  large towels or some form of padding to prevent possible damage during transport.
